St. Helens and England forward, Jon Wilkin, has hosted a hugely successful ‘Good For Everyone’ training camp at The Shay Stadium in Halifax, on behalf of The Co-operative, to promote the positive values of rugby league.
The Co-operative, title sponsors of The Co-operative National Leagues and Conference and an Official Partner of The RFL, gave winners of exclusive competitions the money can’t buy experience of a training session with a rugby league star, along with receiving expert advice via a question and answer session.
In addition, the lucky children also received tips on healthy eating from Jon to emphasise the importance of a good diet in sport and everyday life.
Jon Wilkin is one of the rising stars of rugby league and, at only 24 years of age, already boasts a number of individual and team accolades. He was a key member of the St Helens treble winning side in 2006 and has helped Saints reach the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley this season which takes place on 30 August.
Liz Matkin, The Co-operative Group Sponsorship Manager, said: “We’re delighted that everyone enjoyed The Co-operative’s ‘Good For Everyone’ camp with Jon so much. Rugby league is a superb vehicle for emphasising and communicating positive values such as physical exercise and healthy eating.
“We’re committed to giving something back to rugby league and activities such as this allow us to do just that, and also promote the sport - and provide unique insights – to children who are the future of the game.”
Jon added: “I had a great time at the ‘Good For Everyone’ camp – and really enjoy events such as this where I can put something back into the grassroots side of rugby league.
“My role as a Co-operative ambassador is to encourage kids to lead healthy lifestyles and enjoy playing sport, and hopefully we may also have found a few stars of the future from the kids that attended today!”
