Saints run
It’s been a busy year for Carl Traynor, Saints Community Sports Coach.
Carl is one of 52 full and part time Community Sports Coaches, funded through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) / Sport England, working across Merseyside to increase the opportunities for young people in particular to benefit from access to professional coaching.
Since his appointment, he has been coaching rugby league at more than 30 schools across Merseyside to expand the game and encourage physical activity amongst young people.
Carl helped organise and officiate at the Liverpool Schools Rugby League World Cup when 28 schools took up the flag of countries and battled it out to be Merseyside champions. The event run in partnership with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was a huge success and the entire Saints World Championship squad attended the event.
Carl finished off his first year by helping Saints run the Rugby League Leaders Award with Cobalt Housing for up and coming stars from the
Carl said: “The Community Sports Coaches in Merseyside programme has enabled me to forge key partnerships with schools and I have enjoyed the opportunity to take our game to a new audience of enthusiastic participants.
"The foundations have now been laid to develop the game even further by linking with our partners from Liverpool 08 as we set to form a new junior rugby league club in Liverpool.”
