Should St Helens reach this year’s Carnegie Challenge Cup Final on Saturday 30 August then their fans will sit in the same end as they did in last year’s victory over the Catalans Dragons.
The RFL has decided that the winners of the St Helens and Leeds Rhinos semi-final will be seated in the West half of the stadium with supporters of either Hull FC or Wakefield Wildcats located in the East.
Although the West half of the stadium will hold happy memories for Saints fans, Hull FC supporters may also see their choice of end at Wembley as a lucky omen should they make the final.
Back in May almost 30,000 Hull City football fans were packed in to the East half of Wembley to see their side beat Bristol City 1-0 to win promotion to the Premiership.
Craig Spence, the RFL’s Communications Manager, said: “Now that the ends are known for the final supporters can start planning their Wembley trip in earnest. Last year’s final was a sell-out despite the fact that Catalans only brought a few thousand fans.
“Judging by the demand for this year’s semi-final tickets, and with two English sides guaranteed to make the final, we expect there to be a massive rush to buy Wembley tickets once the semi-finals have been played.
“However, with each club allocated 10,000 tickets each, we are encouraging supporters, to purchase before the semi-finals to avoid the disappointment of missing out.”
Last year’s final between St Helens and Catalans Dragons attracted a crowd of 84,291 and was the first to be played at Wembley since 1999.
