Cunningham Signs One-Year Deal

2nd Oct 2008, 8:05am

Keiron Cunningham has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract.

The deal will see the 31-year-old stay at the Saints until end of season 2009.

Keiron has made a staggering 436 appearances for the Club scoring 163 tries in 14 seasons and has been pivotal in Saints’ dominance of the Super League era.

A true Rugby League ambassador both on and off the field he has also made 26 representative appearances and played three times for Lancashire.

He has also been named in the Dream Team for seven seasons -1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008.

He said: “I spoke to the Chairman (Eamonn McManus) and Tony Colquitt (CEO) earlier in the year about going around again and I said I would consider it if I felt I was in good enough condition towards the end of the season.

“I didn’t want to get to a point were I was just dragging myself around a field.

“But my form has been good this year and I feel I can carry on for another season. I am excited about the challenges that a new coach and new players will bring to the Club.”

Saints’ Chairman, Eamonn McManus, added: “We are all delighted that Keiron will be staying with us for another season at least. He has been Super League’s outstanding player for more than a decade and his influence on the Club and the game cannot be overstated.

“He epitomises the Club: he is an out and out winner but handles it with modesty and dignity.”
