St Helens Rugby League FC is proud to announce a new partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support.
One of the leading cancer charities, Macmillan Cancer Support has been chosen as the club’s Charity of the Year.
It improves the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.
Across Merseyside Macmillan fund a variety of posts including nurses, doctors, health care professionals, information posts and a benefits advisor, they also gave £400,000 in grants to people living with cancer in Merseyside in 2006.
Gillian Wilson, Fundraising Manager for Merseyside, said: "I am delighted that Saints have chosen to support Macmillan, we are very privileged to work alongside the top rugby league club in the country.
“It is a great opportunity for us to also increase our awareness in St Helens."
The partnership will include collections at selected home games, a golf day with players past and present, the new Macmillan pin badges for sale in the Saints shops and support from the players themselves.
Tony Colquitt, St Helens’ chief executive added: “We are delighted to be entering a partnership with Macmillan which will see them becoming our Charity of the Year. At Saints we understand the aims of the organisation and are only too happy to help a worthy cause.
“We look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
Already Saints and Wakefield supporters have dipped into their pockets to raise more than £630 for the charity.
A collection at the recent engage Superleague tie between the two sides went “very well” according to Gillian at Macmillan Cancer Support.
