St Helens Rugby League Club is delighted to announce a 34 per cent increase on attendances in 2008.
So far, Saints have an aggregate crowd of 63,065 compared to 47,158 at the same time last year.
The Club is also averaging more than 12,000 per game compared to a figure of just over 9,000 last season – again an increase of more than a third.
The game against Wigan sold out and every game this season has attracted a 10,000+ crowd, including a Sunday tie against Wakefield.
“This goes to show that our ‘It’s Your Team’ message and aggressive marketing campaign is bearing fruit,” explained Saints’ Marketing Manager Hannah Richardson. “We have targeted several areas this year including ticketing promotions with the new family ticket, bus advertising, extensive advertising on radio, local newspapers and eCommerce and our Community Team is sending out the message in Schools and around the local area.
“We have also been working hard to strengthen links with our sponsors, creating value for Saints fans by offering joint competitions and special offers.”
Marketing initiatives have also included promotions through the St Helens Star’s bumper sticker competition, roadshows in schools, St Helens’ Town Centre, Cineworld and Knowsley Safari Park, the new Saints’ Money service and the increased matchday entertainment aimed at creating a more enjoyable family atmosphere.
She continued: “Whilst these are pleasing figures, we will continue to strive to increase satisfaction amongst fans, adding value to their experience and hopefully further increasing crowds. Watch this space!”
