St Helens Rugby League Club have wasted no time in following up their announcement of new coach Mick Potter by announcing the addition of New Zealand and Samoa International second/front rower Tony Puletua, aged 28, from Penrith Panthers for 2009 on a three-year contract.
Saints Chairman, Eamonn McManus stated: “Tony will add size, athleticism and experience to our pack next year. He sees St Helens and Super League as a new challenge after 10 years at the Penrith Club in Australia.
“We are confident that he will further strengthen our squad and be a big hit with the fans.”
Tony Puletua added: “I’m really excited about joining the world famous St Helens Club. I’m really looking forward to the new start and new challenge in England and Saints’ fans can be assured of my absolute commitment to the Club’s continuing success.”
Tony has made more than 190 appearances for Penrith, has represented his country of origin New Zealand on numerous occasions and was a part of the Panthers successful grand final team in 2003.
“Tony has been a great ambassador for the Panthers,” Penrith’s General Manager Michael Leary told the Club’s official site. ”It will be sad to see him leave and we wish him and his family all the best.
“I know Tony will play out the rest of the season by producing some of his best football for the Panthers."
