Saints Community Development Foundation and Mike Bennett have been short listed for prestigious Capital of Culture 08 awards.

Mike has been recognised as a community celebrity in recognition of all the extra hours he has committed to the St Helens community over the last 10 years.

He has undertaken assembly projects, coached local youngsters and helped support major initiatives including anti-bullying, anti-drugs, community volunteering and charity fund raising for initiatives linked to cancer research and Macmillan nurses.

Mike is up against some serious opponents on the short list including our very own Johnny Vegas.

Saints Community Development Foundation (SCDF) have been short listed for the Enterprising Community Award in recognition of the outstanding work undertaken through The Prince’s Trust Get Off The Bench programme and the dynamic new SHAPE Smart School with Helena Housing and the Community Foundation for Merseyside.

Both of these programmes have enabled local youngsters to get into employment and training whilst engaging school children in additional physical activity.
