Matt Viljoen joined the Saints in 2006 as first team physiotherapist.
Hailing from New Zealand, he started his sports physiotherapy career working mainly with footballing teams, such as the Football Kingz (New Zealand’s first professional football team) before moving to the New Zealand Warriors in 2004.
Matt said: “Although I myself come from a footballing background and have worked mainly with football teams in the past, over the last three years since being involved with Rugby League I’ve developed an appreciation and understanding for what the players have to do to keep themselves in the best possible physical condition week in and week out.
“My role here at the club is focused mainly on rehabilitating these players when they are injured, in the quickest possible manner, whilst making sure when they return from injury that they are back up to the same level of pre-injury fitness and physical condition so risks of re-injury are low.”
Matt was also the New Zealand physiotherapist for the ‘XXXX’ Test against Great Britain at Knowsley Road in June 2006.
