What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication, and enables you to be kept up to date automatically with website content.

Instead of manually visiting your favorite website to check for updates, you can receive notifications via an RSS feed reader running on your desktop. RSS feeds are nearly instant too, so you can be reading the latest content within minutes of it being published.

What do I need?

All you need is an RSS Feed Reader, and then to enter the addresses of some Feeds. It's that simple.

RSS Reader Software

There are plenty of programs out there on the internet, but we recommend the following:

  • All platforms: Mozilla Firefox has built in capability for RSS known as 'live bookmarks'. You'll see a small orange graphic in the address bar. Click the graphic and follow the instructions given.

  • Windows: Internet Explorer 7, a free download, has RSS capabilities built in.
  • Linux GTK/GNOME: Liferea.
  • Mac OS X (Tiger): Use Safari 2's built in RSS capabilities.
