The RFL has today warned fans not to sell tickets for August’s Carnegie Challenge Cup on internet auction sites.
The first cup final back at the new Wembley since 1999 has seen an unprecedented demand for tickets. All general sale tickets are now sold out, with St Helens having just limited numbers left to sell.
Such demand for tickets has resulted in a number appearing on internet auction sites, at prices much greater than the original face value.
Craig Spence, the RFL’s Communication Manager, said: “The attraction of the new Wembley has seen a massive demand for tickets. Unfortunately, it now appears a number of ticket holders are cashing in on this demand by trying to sell their tickets via on-line auction sites.
“The term and conditions for all our match tickets state that they cannot be resold. As a result we’re currently contacting a number of customers who have placed their tickets on internet auction sites. We’re informing them that unless they remove their tickets from sale that we will make their tickets void and they will not be entitled to a refund.
“We are also speaking to a number of internet sites asking them to remove all Carnegie Challenge Cup Final tickets from sale.”
The RFL is also urging those fans without tickets for the final who are tempted to purchase from online sites to remain patient.
Craig Spence added: “We’re optimistic that a few hundred seats may become available for Wembley in the next week or so. As a result anyone who calls our box office is being added to a waiting list and should extra tickets become available we will call them back.”
The Carnegie Challenge Cup Final will be played on 25 August between Catalans Dragons and St Helens.
