In a match brought forward from Saturday the U19s travelled to Humberside looking to exact revenge against the only side to beat the Saints at home this season.

Always a tricky assignment it got much worse for the Saints from the off as the home side scored before the Saints had even touched the ball converting after two repeat sets, writes Graham Henthorne.

The Saints took a 6 – 4 lead as Jack Welsby converted a great show and go try from Ryan Horne.

That was the half time score as, very much like the first game, both sides had cancelled each other out with some fine defensive play.

The second half started much as the first had with the home side scoring straight from the kick off this time from a Saints error.

The Saints regained the lead virtually straight away as Josh Simm’s powerful run took him over the line.

On the hour the Saints turned the screw with Chris Follin going in and then put the game to bed with Tom Nisbet diving in to score on the restart set.

The final coup de grace was provided by John Hutchings. The big winger powered over in the corner after a sweeping left to right move. Welsby’s touchline conversion putting the cherry on top.

In similar fashion to the first team Cup game the home side had numerous players sin-binned at various times. Matty Foster was the only Saints transgressor giving vital numerical advantages.

The victory was based on a fine defensive effort from 1 – 17 keeping the strong Hull outfit at bay coupled with a clinical attacking show taking full advantage of the few chances that came their way.

The centre pairing of Josh Simm and the much improved Luke Ward along with Tom Nisbet caused problems all evening as did Callum Hazard and Matty Foster.

But special mention must be made of the efforts of Chris Follin, Sam Royle and Captain for the evening Jack Welsby who led from the front.
