St Helens Rugby League Football Club has continued its policy of signing, nurturing and developing the best young talent in Rugby League.

 

Nine players from its Academy set up have agreed professional terms and will continue their development at one of the most progressive youth set ups in the game.

 

All nine participated in Saints Academy’s 2006 Tour of Australia and follow their tour teammates - Gary Wheeler and Gareth Frodsham - in committing their futures to the Club.

These players follow in the footsteps of James Graham, Ste Tyrer, James Roby, Matty Smith, Paul Clough, Scott Moore and Chris Dean in coming through the highly successful Academy and Scholarship Programmes at the Club, which has, in the past, also produced the likes of Paul Wellens and Keiron Cunningham.

 

Mike Rush, Saints’ High Performance Manager, said: “We are delighted that these young players have committed their futures to the Club. They will now continue their Rugby League development with the Saints and train as part of the first team squad.”

 

Saints CEO Tony Colquitt added: “These signings continue our policy of signing our up and coming British talent.

 

“They will continue their development at the Saints under the highly successful Academy system that has produced the likes of James Graham and James Roby.

 

“Their development so far is testament to the work of Mike Rush and his Academy Coaches, alongside the work of the volunteers within the Scholarship and Academy programmes. The future of the Club is certainly in good hands.”
