St. Helens Service Area and St. Helens RLFC have again combined to deliver a series of coaching camps during the Easter Holidays.
The camps were held at four of the local amateur clubs (Blackbrook, Newton Storm, Thatto Heath and Clock Face) and involved both existing players from the clubs as well as local youngsters new to the sport.
It’s hoped the camps have been successful in breaking down barriers so that the new recruits will return to play with the clubs.
In total, 188 children participated over the three day period with Saints community staff on hand to deliver the sessions. As part of the programme, each child also received a match ticket for St. Helens v Leeds Rhinos Super League fixture.
Thatto Heath also used the opportunity to showcase the new clubhouse and facilities.
A representative from the club commented: “Everyone has had a really great morning. We had 36 children - the youngest being 6 and the oldest 13/14 - and the coaches divided the groups into good age mixes and good sizes.
“There was really a great buzz at the club and it was great to see all the children really enjoying being together at all different ages and having a great time.”
