Best flag competition for Millennium Magic

3rd Apr 2008, 3:59pm

The RFL has launched a competition for supporters to design the best flag ahead of this May’s Millennium Magic in Cardiff – with the winners set to receive VIP days out at this year’s engage Super League Grand Final.

At last year’s event, the Millennium Stadium was awash with colour as supporters from engage Super League and The Co-operative National League clubs decorated the venue with flags showing the colours of their team.

As a result the RFL has decided to challenge fans ahead of this May’s carnival event to see who can design the best flag.

Each day ahead of the final game, cult comedian Keith Chegwin, who is compering this year’s entertainment programme, will pick out the best flag from the crowd.

The winner on each day will receive a pair of VIP tickets to this year’s engage Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on 4 October.

Phil Williams, the RFL’s Marketing Manager, said: “One of the standout features from last year’s Millennium Magic was the number of flags that fans displayed in and around the stadium.

“The stadium was awash with colour and we hope by making it a little competitive this year that more supporters will bring flags to the event to make the venue look even more spectacular.”

As well as the best flag competition, the RFL has announced a much improved entertainment programme for this year’s Magic which will see an entire round of engage Super League fixtures played under the roof at the Millennium Stadium.

Even before a ball is kicked, supporters will be treated to an array of spectacular entertainment for the whole family.

Face painters, magicians, fire breathers, stilt walkers and musicians are just some of the things supporters can expect to find on their way to the stadium.

Super League’s title sponsor engage Mutual Assurance will one again be present with their Fanzone on Woking Street in the heart of Cardiff city centre. The Fanzone will play host to musical performances as well as a range of interactive games, including a try scoring bungee run, and regular giveaways, making it a must visit attraction.

Inside the stadium, a live house band, accompanied by a team of professional dancers, will treat supporters to a musical festival.

The weekend’s entertainment will also feature the inaugural ‘Mascot Games’, hosted by ‘Cheggars’, as mascots from all engage Super League clubs do battle to see which is the fittest.

Phil Williams added: “A lot of the feedback we received from supporters following last year’s event was that they wanted more varied entertainment inside and outside the stadium.

“We believe this year the entertainment will deliver a carnival atmosphere that will appeal to supporters of all ages.”

Tickets to Millennium Magic are still available priced £18 per day for adults or £30 for a weekend pass. Concessions start from just £5 per day.
