Saints’ star Paul Sculthorpe has launched the ‘Lunch 4 Life’ campaign in St. Helens high schools and is actively encouraging pupils to opt for the new, healthier school meals.
St. Helens is ahead of the game and has already met the Government’s new nutritional standards for primaries which must be in place next year.
The Council is now targeting high school pupils with new look menus offering healthy, freshly prepared meals brimming with goodness and nutrients.
Launching the healthier meals, Scully said: “Being a professional sportsman I realise how important a healthy diet and lifestyle is. We have been fortunate to have been given good advice and information on what the body and, more importantly, the heart requires to stay healthy and active.
I would advise anyone who has access to similar information to take it with both hands and give themselves an opportunity of a long and healthy life.”
Cllr Carole Kavanagh, the Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Protection, added: “We are delighted that Scully has agreed to help promote our new menus. The tables have been turned on school meals in St. Helens which have been transformed into more appealing, well balanced, healthily cooked dishes which range from the traditional to international cuisine, offering something for all pupils, whatever their tastes.”
The new look menus conform to the Government’s stringent standards and feedback from primary parents has been very positive. In addition to an interesting selection of freshly cooked foods, salads, vegetable sticks, bread, fruit, yoghurt, skimmed or semi-skimmed milk, fruit juices and water are available each day.
