St. Helens Community Development team with the aid of funding from the Youth Sport Trust have recently been working within local secondary schools delivering rugby coaching sessions to year 10 and 11 girls. The uptake has been extremely positive with 72 sessions delivered within 8 schools between September 06 and January 07.

On the back of this coaching a Schools festival was held at Bobby’s Lane with teams from Rainford High, Broadway High and Sutton High Sports College all participating in the event.

Each team played three games with all participants demonstrating a high level of skill and determination throughout every game. All of the teams and supporting staff should be congratulated on contributing to the success of the day which is hoped will become an annual event.

All of the games contained elements of skill and determination with Broadway eventually emerging as the overall victors by beating Rainford Team 1 in the final game of the day.
