MICK Potter was obviously delighted as Saints increased their lead at the top of the Super League table with a 50-10 win over Castleford Tigers.
“We scored some real good tries,” Saints' head coach said after the match. “There was some exceptional play too and I was pleased with 50 points.
“Perhaps we were maybe unlucky not to get another couple of tries too.
“There is no replacement for the players that are away with England, but the players that filled those roles did what they needed to do.”
Kyle Eastmond scored twice and Jonny Lomax added another on his home debut as Saints’ youngsters showed how bright the future is at the GPW Recruitment Stadium.
“They had good aspects on their game didn’t they,” Mick added, “especially when the game opened up in the second half. Jonny proved a real handful for the other team and I think he has a good future ahead of him.
“Matty Ashurst, Andy Dixon and Gary Wheeler have signed up for three years and that is good for the club – especially if they fulfil their potential and they have the right attitude to head in the right direction for us.”
Mick also revealed that Wheeler had picked up a groin injury in the Gateshead game and so played in the reserves as part of his recovery. Sean Long came off as a precaution with a calf injury whilst Leon Pryce’s groin was giving him some trouble.
Neither injury is likely to keep the half back partnership from playing next week against Bradford.
