It's time for St.Helens fans to make their choice for The Turmeric Co. Try of the Month for St.Helens' Men's and Women's First Teams from May!
St.Helens’ First Team had four matches in the month of May, starting with our first-ever Super League meeting with York Knights. On the night, Jack Welsby made his return to match action for the first time since Round 1 and marked it with a terrific, trademark Welsby try by evading defenders and forcing his way over in the corner.
Nene Macdonald also featured, albeit perhaps not 100% as he has sadly been working his way back from injury and knee surgery, but as the finish of the game neared, some Harry Robertson magic set Nene rolling to score his first St.Helens score.
The Challenge Cup Semi-Final and then an away trip to Huddersfield Giants followed; Robertson again was involved; however, this time was the beneficiary after a big break upfield by Welsby. Harry was ankle-tapped, but he managed to get up and get over the try-line for a great four-pointer.
Later on in the half at the Accu Stadium, Owen Dagnall showed his finishing skills by diving and grounding the ball in the corner, with centimetres of the field left for him to work in. It came on the back of some great shape by the Saints.
May closed out for St.Helens’ First Team with a visit to Castleford, and a bitterly disappointing afternoon as we fell to a defeat to the Tigers.
That was May 2026 for the Saints Men, and those were the four tries of the nineteen scored that we have shortlisted. We want you to choose the winner by commenting on our social media posts!

We are also asking fans to choose the St.Helens Women’s Try of the Month for May 2026.
The S-Women played four matches in the month, starting with the Challenge Cup Semi-Final at Doncaster against Leeds Rhinos. Zoe Harris, early in the fixture, kicked into the in-goal for her fellow half-back Faye Gaskin to ground the ball; however, a video ref review ruled it out. Later on in the opening half, Gaskin returned the favour, and Harris was able to score off Gaskin’s clever kick.
In the second half of the semi, Emily Rudge showed her strength to evade and shake off Rhinos’ defenders close to the line. The veteran showed her experience by reaching out to get to the whitewash and finish off a memorable score and seal the team’s passage to Wembley.
A trip to Barrow followed, and a debut try for Mikayla Gillespie made it a match to remember for all in the team. The New Zealander sprinted into the corner after getting a great Amy Hardcastle pass, and raced away 40 metres to score against Barrow Raiders Ladies.
Later on in Cumbria, Dani McGifford scored very similarly. The WSL’s top try scorer last season could have had several scores from May in this vote, but her fourth four-pointer against the Raiders could have been the pick of the bunch. Great hands and shape set her rolling, and she exploded off the wing to grab her fourth try of the contest from distance.
The Saints Women also went away to York Valkyrie, taking the victory with a dramatic, late McGifford winner. The month ended disappointingly with the Red V coming up short against Wigan in the Challenge Cup Final.
