Reserves Double Up on the Bulls

In a tough curtain raiser to the main event the Reserves got the better of the forward battle to register a double over the Bulls on Sunday.
 
Despite letting the home side back level early in the second half the Reserves steadied the ship to run out easy winners.
 
The match was nip and tuck for most of the first stanza until two tries, to Jamie Ellis and Dale Bloomfield both converted by Ellis, in the final five minutes gave the Saints a half time lead.
 
The Bulls roared back with converted tries of their own to shock the Saints out of their half time lethargy and bring the crowd back into it.
 
Martin Waring’s try on the hour broke the deadlock before two neatly worked scrum moves down the left finally ended the Bulls stubborn resistance.
 
Firstly quick hands from Ellis to Jonny Lomax, slotting back into his more familiar stand off role, put Alex Asher in at the corner. Then in an almost identical move Ellis put Warren Thompson in for the score and converted it to crucially put the Saints three scores ahead.
 
It was left to Paul Johnson’s 60 metre interception to put the icing on a very satisfactory cake.
 
As is always the case, to win at Bradford your forwards have to play well and Coach Ian Talbot was pleased with their efforts. As some niggly injuries started to take their toll Karl Ashall and Phil Baines made telling contributions off the bench.
