TALK about dedication to the Red Vee... Katsuhiko Oka – “Katz” to his friends and colleagues – will this week travel the best part of 6000 miles to watch his beloved Saints.
On Friday he lands at the GPW Recruitment Stadium to watch Mick Potter’s men take on Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
He works in the Information Systems department of NSG (the company that bought Pilkington) in Tokyo, Japan.
As well as having a ‘Saints’ Wall’ in his office – with assorted press-cuttings, DVDs, newspapers, flags and banners – Katz has already been to the GPW when Matty Smith kicked a late penalty in March 2008 to beat Hull FC 30-29.
He also prints out the match report and league table after every game for this whole office to see and is an avid fan of “Super League TV”.
Colleague Cath Hawley said: “Since his first trip, he has looked forward to every subsequent one, always checking the fixture list as soon as one is arranged to ensure his flights leave him available to watch the match.
“We’re looking forward to taking Katz to the game. He has his replica shirt packed and his match ticket is ready and waiting. He has a ground ticket these days as he prefers to stand on the popular side with colleagues and their families.
“Then, we will visit the pub and discuss how great Saints played!”
Saints will present Katz with a signed shirt before the game on Friday.
Tony Colquitt, Saints CEO, added: “We have fans from far and wide in the Saints family and we will be delighted to welcome Katz to the game on Friday. We hope, after a long flight, he has a good night and cheers the lads onto another win.”
