MICK Potter paid tribute to Huddersfield’s defence after his side was beaten 24-14 in the Challenge Cup Semi Final.
“I thought they scored a couple of good tries from set plays that set them up really well for the rest of the game,” he said. “Their defence was tight in the second half but I thought we could have executed some things a little better.
“We have been a little up and down in that over the last half a dozen weeks, but you have to give them a good rap for their defence.”
Potter says he was hopeful Sean Long would make a return, but he wasn’t just quite ready, whilst he thought both Keiron Cunningham and James Roby went ok.
He also revealed that Kyle Eastmond was carrying an injury late in the game and that he was pleased the young half back had “toughed it out for the team”.
“He did it for the team and did his best,” Mick added. “It was a tough game to play in and he will be a better player for the experience too. It is hard for a young kid to come in and play at 7. We don’t expect perfection from him but it is fair to say he is exceeding expectations at this time in his career.”
Mick knows that his team will come back stronger in pursuit of Grand Final glory and that will continue next Sunday when Saints travel to Hull KR.
