Under 18s Beat Old Enemy

The Academy turned on the style to emulate their younger counterparts and beat the visitors from across Billinge Lump making it three wins out of three for the Saints on the day.

The U15s and U16s had both won 18 – 10 and 38 – 8 against the Old Foe by the time the Academy took the field at a sunny GPW Recruitment Stadium on Saturday.

Undaunted, the Academy raced into a 12 – 0 lead after a quarter of an hour courtesy of tries to Adam Barber and Tommy Makinson, both goaled by Makinson and never looked back.

Led by the imposing figures of Carl Forster and Anthony Walker the Academy were simply too powerful for the visitors and further tries to Makinson and Jordan Case only served to emphasise their strength.

The visitors clawed their way back into contention on the stroke of half time but the game was already gone.

Aaron Lloyd and Walker added scores to stretch the lead to 36 – 6 before two consolation scores made the score a bit more respectable.

The last laugh was had by the Saints, however, as Barber powered over for his second.

Although Coach Derek Traynor was well pleased with the win, he did lament the numerous chances which went begging which would have put a true reflection on the dominance of the Academy on the day.

Man of the Match was Tommy Makinson who continues to improve and impress with each game.
