Colquitt Backs Championship Plan

SAINTS Chief Executive Tony Colquitt believes all Engage Super League clubs stand to benefit from the on-going review into the structure of the Championships.

After receiving an update on the RFL’s plans to expand and strengthen the sport below Super League level, Colquitt is excited by what the future holds for the whole of Rugby League.

Tony said: “The whole sport will benefit from a successful and expanded Championships competition.

“With a wider competition featuring more clubs from across the country I expect to see more players being produced which will drive up standards.

“This will certainly benefit Super League clubs as there will be an increase in the number of high quality Rugby League players playing in the Championships that could then make the step up.

“We support the work that the RFL is doing on the strategic review of the Championships and we look forward to seeing the outcome.”

Expressions of interest are currently being sought by the RFL from any clubs in the UK that are interested in joining the Co-operative Championships between 2012 and 2015.

The RFL has announced that it intends to further expand the Co-operative Championships during this period and the initial deadline for expression of interest submissions from clubs is 12pm on April 11.
