Saints Soar Over Eagles

CALL ups to the Reserves, continuing suspensions and the respective League positions of the two sides allowed Coach Derek Traynor to play eight of the recent signings from the successful U16s squad writes Graham Henthorne.

There would have been two more if not for injuries and holidays.

Despite this the Eagles were no match for your super Saints who ran in 16 tries to win 84-12 and maintain their premier position in this year’s competition.

Corey Lee opened the scoring finish a great handling move taking Lewis Charnock’s final pass and he was on hand minutes later to increase the lead capitalising on a spilled Dom Speakman bomb.

Yet another Eagles error under the high ball, this time from Jack Jones allowed Luke Thompson to continue his rich vein of form winning the race to touch down.

The Saints remained ahead of the clock as Matty Fozzard dummied his way over after another barnstorming Greg Richards break.

The Eagles opened their account at quarter time after errors from the Saints and stemmed the tide somewhat until the Saints again showed their class in the final ten.

First Jack Jones completed a length of the field move showing excellent support play, then Leon Tatlock took advantage of Lewis Galbraith’s great offload out of the tackle to score.

The scoring was finished off on the stroke of half time as Lewis Sheridan dummied his way over to the side of the posts for the Saints seventh try.

Another Sheridan dummy put him through the line and he accelerated away from the defence to open the scoring in the second half.

Good speed from a well worked scrum move gave Ben Parry the chance to score on his debut for the Red Vee.

Greg Richards finally got his reward for another block busting display with the next Saints try and when Sheridan completed his hat-trick on 56 minutes the calculators were well and truly in evidence.

The Eagles again got some reward fro their persistence with a try to the strong running second row but normal service resumed on the restart as Corey Lee completed his hat-trick from full back as the coaching staff tried out some different combinations.

Lewis Charnock showed good strength and determination to force his way over and Dom Speakman capped his all round display with a try from a very unaccustomed wing position.

Leon Tatlock completed his hat-trick with two strong runs down the line and the final act was left for Nathan Skupski completing a well crafted move.

Had anyone been able to kick a goal the century would have been reached which, although perhaps harsh on a determined Eagles side, would have been a true reflection on the performance put in by this extremely young Saints side.
