THE most iconic name in a litany of great players to have represented the historic club of St Helens, Tom Van Vollenhoven, will lead out the Saints team against Salford City Reds on the evening of February 10.
This game will represent the Grand Opening of the Saints’ new home of Langtree Park at its official 18,000 capacity, and will herald the dawn of the new era for St Helens.
Tom Van Vollenhoven stated: “It was a fabulous honour for me to have been invited to the closing dinner of Knowsley Road after more than a century of greats had graced its turf.
“For me to be asked to lead the team out at the start of its new life is overwhelming and humbling.”
Chairman Eamonn McManus added: “Tom unhesitatingly agreed to our invitation. He is synonymous with our great history and more than anyone epitomises what we stand for.
“We are proud that we have a great new ground which guarantees our future, but are mindful of our rich and proud history, which we must continue, and Tom is absolutely the right person to connect our proud history and tradition to our exciting future.
“I’m expecting 18,000 Saints fans to be there to give him the welcome that he deserves that historic evening.”
Tickets for the opener are now on sale and can be bought from Langtree Park, by calling 01744 455 050 or by logging on to www.saintssuperstore.com
