THE nine Stobart Super League fixtures that will be screened live by Sky Sports on Monday evenings between May and August have today been confirmed.
The Monday night action will kick off with a repeat of last year’s Super League Grand Final on Monday May 21, when champions Leeds Rhinos host St Helens at Headingley Carnegie Stadium.
Two weeks later, Bank Holiday Monday June 4, the Sky Sports cameras roll into Odsal for the Round 16 fixture Bradford Bulls v Castleford Tigers.
Monday night Stobart Super League continues through June and July and into early August with nine different clubs hosting the nine televised fixtures in a new slot which is predicted to become a huge success.
Super League chairman Richard Lewis said: “The introduction of Super League Mondays on Sky Sports will continue to push the boundaries of the sport as a spectacle on television.
“Sky Sports have had great success in driving excellent viewing figures for their Monday night coverage, especially Premier League football and it is fantastic that they want to showcase the Stobart Super League in what sports broadcasters regard as one of the most desirable spots across the globe, as we have seen with the NFL in the USA and the NRL in Australia.”
Neville Smith, Sky Sports’ Executive Producer Rugby League programming, added: “The mid-season move to Monday night shows our commitment to the growth and profile of Rugby League.
“The launch of our new show, Sunday night’s Super League Full Time with Bill Arthur, will support this exciting new schedule as we continue to deliver exclusive, live HD and 3D coverage and broadcasts from every stadium in Super League.”
