THE Saints continued their run of good form against the Giants at this level with another comprehensive victory at the YMCA ground, writes Graham Henthorne.
For the second year running the Giants conceded over 60 points at the hands of the clinical Saints as they lost 68-0.
With a magnificent defensive display the Saints put into practice all the hard work done on the training field nilling the Giants on their own midden.
It’s no mean feat to keep the opposition scoreless at home but to do it away from Langtree Park is particularly satisfying for all involved.
The first half started well but the Saints were guilty of over playing too often gifting field position to the home side.
However, as soon as the half time break was over the rejuvenated Saints put the game plan into action and took the home side apart.
As usual the performance was built on the back of a powerful display from the forwards. Once they started to dominate the physical Giants pack the half backs turned around the opposition and started to exploit the space created.
Whilst last week’s victory was won down the middle this week’s was very much a testament to Saints trademark expansive philosophy with the backs contributing 10 of the 12 tries scored.
Fresh from First team duty Jamie Foster bagged 5 tries and 10 goals for a personal haul of 40 points. What better way to recharge your batteries and showcase your talents.
Most pleasing for Coaches Ian Talbot and Glyn Walsh was the ability of the side to concentrate for the full 80 minutes. These qualities will be needed to cope with the much sterner tests to come starting on Friday with the visit of Hull FC in the U20’s first game at Langtree Park.
