Back To Winning Ways…?

MIKE Rush is looking for his charges to get back on the horse when they face Wakefield this Sunday.

Saints lie third in Super League and can maintain that position with a win over in Yorkshire.

But it will be a tough match against the Wildcats who have beaten Leeds and Castleford in recent weeks.

“They showed against those sides what a good team they are,” Rush said. “Tim Smith is playing well and Danny Kirmond and Ali Lauitiiti have good go forward. We certainly know what we are up against and we need to raise the bar. If we do what we can do we are confident we can get a result.

“We know from the match against Warrington we need to get good ball, have a better kicking game and show more composure. We were disappointed we didn’t put in our best display on Monday. We know we can do better but take nothing from Warrington, they strangled us at times and we didn’t do the right thing at the right time.

“We were ok defensively as at times we defended repeat sets back to back. We scored two well worked tries but missed too many opportunities. To only concede 22 points with the weight of their possession shows we did something right but the boys know what they need to do and where they went wrong.

“We will have to do better come the playoff rounds and starting this weekend. We will make some tweaks; there is no scratching of heads or fear going forward. We just need to be able to string back to back performances and we haven’t done that. Against the Catalans and Giants we were good, but didn’t do that on Monday. “

Saints could be without Jon Wilkin this weekend as he aggravated a knock he carried into Warrington match.

Sia Soliola also turned his ankle in training at the weekend.

“For both of them it depends how they settle down over the week so we won’t know for sure until Friday,” Rush added. “Ade Gardner is still coming back from his injury and is in full training with us.

“We are in no rush with him to bring him back as if we get it wrong then it is season ending.”
