NATHAN Brown was pleased with the contribution from all of his side in their 26-0 friendly win over Huddersfield Giants on Friday night.

Saints scored five tries in a dominant performance that was built on strong defence.

“To keep them to nil was pleasing,” he said. “They have three or four international forwards missing and you know that will be a strength to their game this season. In the first half they had Danny Brough and Luke Robinson on the field and that gave them experience. I thought we defended well against that.

“Both sides started well with some reasonable contact and you can see there is a lot of competition in both clubs and depth in the forwards. For a first hit out we can be reasonably happy but if we want to catch up to Warrington and Leeds we have some work to do.”

He continued: “I was happy with Jonny Lomax, he did some really nice stuff and got the team going forward. Most players contributed in some way; Joe Greenwood had a nice start after a good pre-season and the young front rowers contributed too.

“Mark Percival on the wing came under pressure and came up well.

“The key will be keeping players fit. It you look at Leeds when they have won the comp they have had their players fit and playing well at the same time.”
