MARK Flanagan said the pack had to show confidence to get on top of Widnes last weekend – and he is looking for a repeat on Friday.
Saints take on Hull FC at Langtree Park in Super League with another tough forward battle expected.
“Our confidence was down after the first game of the season, it was a bad day at the office,” he said. “We turned it around against Widnes and it was tough – they came out firing on all cylinders and we got two points.
“We know we still have a lot of work to do but we got the win and that was important.”
He continued: “We were embarrassed a little bit against the Giants and it wasn’t a typical Saints performance. I think a much stronger performance came out at Widnes and we defended well. We played tougher. That is now a yardstick and we move on.
“Perhaps we were overconfident after the friendlies and had a false sense of where we were. Every single team in the comp will have an off day; hopefully we have got ours out of the way early doors.
“Hull have a good pack and it will be a good battle between us and them this week.”
