NATHAN Brown was happy with a point as his side drew with Hull FC on Friday night.
Saints led 22-12 with 30 minutes to go but had to settle for a share of the spoils.
“In some ways happy with a point,” he said “as they had enough ball to win three games in the second half. But I was disappointed as I thought we threw a point away.
“The most disappointing thing is every time we had them ready to break we gave away some ‘tackle four’ penalties. We came up with silly errors and they got the 50:50 calls.
“I thought the ref managed the ruck well and was consistent. We wouldn’t buy a 50:50 decision and as a result they kept the ball. We came up with some errors or penalties when we got some ascendancy. But when Lee Gaskell forced an error, we didn’t get that either. They also kicked it when their players were offside too.
“But, we showed improvement in the first hour – on a weekly basis we are looking to improve and you can’t fault the guy’s effort on that.”
Paul Wellens left the field with a calf problem and that will be monitored over the next few days.
Brown added: “We put the effort in to get two points but we didn’t play smart enough. We need to improve again next week.”
