Brown: Start Was Poor

NATHAN Brown was in philosophical mood after seeing his side beaten 22-14 at Hull KR.

Despite battling back to 10 all by the end of the first half he thought his side’s kicking game and defence let them down.

“I could tell by the first few sets that we weren’t quite there,” he said. “Our kicking game was really poor and while our goal-line was great, our defence elsewhere wasn’t. We started really lethargic and only a few classy pieces of play got us back into the game.

“Our best player was Francis Meli and he’s the only one to have had a rest over Easter. That’s where we are at with our squad at the moment, that’s the reality. It’s not an excuse, we just didn’t execute well.

“We started the second half the same way we started the first, not that well. But to hold them out and stay in the game was good. We need to dust ourselves off and get ready for Friday.”

The loss of Mark Flanagan early on hit Saints hard and he will go for a scan early in the week to find out how long he is out for.

Brown added: “He’ll definitely be out for a few weeks.”
