NATHAN Brown said Saints’ at times displayed some of the best periods of the season despite losing 25-16 to Huddersfield Giants on Monday.
“At 18-6 I thought we still had a good chance,” he said. “When Danny Brough kicked the field goal – he is a clever player is Broughy and obviously did that for a reason – I thought we were starting to find our best form for a long time.
“Our attack was a little disjointed but that was also down to Huddersfield’s good scrambling defence. With our defence, apart from one ‘one on one’ miss, it was the best it had been for a long time.
“We were playing against a side that is one of the form sides in the comp but I still thought we looked better in the second half than we have looked at that stage for many many months.”
He continued: “Having James Roby back helped, as did having a regulation half back. Jon Wilkin was also back in his favoured position. I got a lot more confidence out of the second half than I have from any game we have played for a long time.”
Ade Gardner suffered a bad concussion in the match and he will be monitored over the coming days.
Brown also revealed that Jonny Lomax is very close to a return: “He is back in training with the squad but we’ll have to see how things go. We won’t be making any rash decisions.”
