NATHAN Brown was pleased with Saints’ second half intensity as they picked up two points on the road at Salford City Reds.
His side ran in nine tries to record a 52-10 victory and climb to seventh in the Super League table.
“In the first half I thought we sort of did enough, but fair play to them,” he said. “They responded to a few of their own performances over recent weeks, and a week off, and Brian Noble would have wanted an improved showing. We did some decent stuff but there was a feeling that to do ok would be enough.
“But we lifted the intensity in the second half and played good footy like we should do against a side that are in a situation like Salford are at the moment.
“We have good players back in key positions and that made a difference. Our second half performance will help our confidence. We could have scored that many against Bradford as we created a lot, but our final pass stuck a little better tonight.”
Paul Wellens played his 450th game for the Saints and scored a superb try – his 216th in the Red V – whilst Jordan Turner was also impressive with two four-pointers.
“He plays on great committment and effort as well as awareness does Wello,” Brown added. “He has done well and adapted to his new role in the team too. Jordan has had a good year and has been in our top performers. It helps that the likes of Gaz O’Brien, Jonny Lomax and James Roby are getting him the ball.
“When I first came off the plane Baloo (Paul Anderson at Huddersfield) told me about this kid at Salford and I’ve followed him. He is similar to Leroy Cudjoe; he has speed, is big, has great hands and makes his winger look good. He has worked hard on his defence and is continuing to improve. He is a fine young player.”
Saints’ next Super League match is at Langtree Park on Friday June 28 when they take on Hull KR.
