Saints Double Up on Eagles

THE Saints U19s produced a dominant second half performance to crush the never say die Eagles 60-6.

Originally scheduled for the usual Saturday afternoon slot the game had been brought forward to be played on Friday evening and mirrored the efforts of the first team in more ways than one.

The home side limited the Saints to just three first half tries and a precarious 12 point lead at the break with the same brand of tenacious defence as they displayed at Langtree Park earlier in the season.

Two early tries set the Saints on their way, but as has happened a bit recently they had a flat period allowing the Eagles back into it

It was a different story after the break, however, as the Saints broke the shackles running in eight tries without reply. In true Saints fashion many were scored from distance but most pleasing was the continued good form in defence nilling the opposition.

Coach Derek Traynor used the game to give further opportunities to young forwards Ross McCauley, Joe Ryan and Tom Roughley whilst giving a run out to Mark Percival back from first team duty.

Lewis Galbraith continued his rich vein of form with a double from one wing and rugby union trialist Billy Fisher had a dream debut for the Saints completing his hat-trick from the other flank. Percival and Dave Hewitt also scored with further tries coming from Greg Richards, Matty Fozard, Connor Dwyer and Captain James Tilley. Lewis Charnock, getting a run out at loose forward for the evening, and Percival shared the goal kicking exploits.

Best on the night were Charnock, Tilley, Richards and Greg Wilde but special mention should go to the hat-trick hero debutant.
