Langtree Park Christened

SAINTS Chairman Eamonn McManus has described the Club’s first victory over Wigan at Langtree Park as the stadium’s “Christening”.

Eamonn stated: “Langtree Park may have been born on February 10 2012 when it was officially opened on the night of its first Super League game against Salford but it was christened on July 22 2013 when we beat Wigan in our great new home for the first time.

“Our loyal fans produced an amazing atmosphere throughout the game and the team produced a great display to show us precisely what they are capable of. The ground can certainly produce the atmosphere as long as the team produces the performances – it will be even better when the cladding is finished this season.

“I said when we left Knowsley Road that the famous old ground had written its rich history through great games and wins, particularly those against our biggest rivals.

“Last week’s victory was marks the first chapter in a new volume of our great Club’s history. Everyone now knows what a great stadium Langtree Park is in every respect.

“All the players responded magnificently to our fans’ support. I’d like to pay particular tribute to Anthony Laffranchi who flew back early from Australia from compassionate leave to help his team mates and he put in a great effort.

“We now need to be at our best every week and build on from the improved performances of the last two games. Next week will be another big test against Catalans and another full performance is necessary.

“I know that our loyal fans will be yet again in their numbers in Perpignan and we’ll be doing our best for them.”
