PAUL Wellens says Saints are in great shape as they head into the Playoff campaign.
Hull KR are the visitors to Langtree Park on Saturday (5pm) in a do or die clash.
“We’re certainly under the radar again,” he said. “We are going into the comp in as good a shape as we have been all season in terms of the way we are playing and the mentality and confidence of the group.
“We are working hard for each other and have key players back in key positions too. It will be a tough test on Saturday but the players are well up for it.
“Given our inconsistency this season a lot of focus and attention has gone elsewhere. But over the last seven or eight weeks we have lost one game and that was down to a poor 20 minute period at the start of the match.
“We are the form team in the competition and I think we should take a lot of confidence from that.”
Saints beat Hull FC 38-12 on their own patch last Friday and Wellens reckons that match showed the players are together as a group.
“Hull is a difficult place to go and we had to fight hard for the victory,” he continued. “We showed within the group that we are prepared to work hard for each other. If you are to be successful in the playoffs you have to bust a gut on more than one occasion. We are prepared to do that and we have the personnel to do that.
“We have made some alterations to the team and as a result there is genuine strike in the back row and that has pace too.
“Adam Swift has shown what he is capable of. He has been superb over the last eight weeks and has a good partnership with Francis Meli. It’s great to see him playing consistently as at one point we didn’t know whether he would play or not.
“We know more than anyone how tough Hull KR will be to face. That have beaten us three times but it is certainly a game we are up for.”
