Run In Leaves Saints Sharp

NATHAN Brown is hoping Saints’ tough end to the regular season will make them sharp as they enter the playoffs.

His side faced games against Wigan and Warrington as well as tricky trips to Catalan, Hull and Wakefield in the last few weeks.
That saw them secure eight wins from ten and fifth spot on the Super League ladder.

It’s a far cry when a squad decimated by injury earlier in the season was struggling to be consistent.

“We did it tough for a long period of time but we had enough good quality youngsters in the team to keep us ticking over,” Brown said. “At this time of the year you need your best and experienced players out there.

“We were unlucky earlier in the year but now we are very fortunate to have Jonny Lomax, Sia Soliola, Willie Manu and James Roby all back playing. They know what works for them and we’ve had some really good wins too. We are confident and the last few fixtures have meant we are prepared heading into the match.

“It helps as a lot of the players here know what is required to do well in the playoffs. That is definitely a benefit. We have numbers of blokes leaving who have contributed a lot to the club. Every week is a big week from here on in, but that has been the case for the past ten weeks because of where we were on the table.

“The guys have responded well and we would like to think we have as much chance as anybody.”

Saints take on Hull KR on Saturday having not beaten them this season.

“We have played them twice with really depleted sides and in one of those games Franny got sent off, and we didn’t lose by much.

“When we played our strongest side we played the worst and to Hull KR’s credit they beat us on merit.

“They have recruited well from overseas, but have developed their own players too and have got a lot of big, local guys. They have creative players like Craig Hall, Michael Dobson, Lincoln Withers and have brought Greg Eden and Adam Walker in from Huddersfield, who have been great buys for them.

“It will be a good game.”

Tickets for Saturday’s match are now on sale from the Ticket Office at Langtree Park, by calling 01744 455 052 or by logging on here.
