Lads Arrive Safe And Sound

THE Academy arrived safe and sound in Australia and seemed to handle the flight like seasoned travellers, writes Mike Rush.

As normal we had some great conversations with the kids including Killer (Neil Kilshaw) informing Jake Spedding that the light he could see out of his window was an escort plane to make sure we arrived safe and sound…

Needless to say it was the flashing light at the end of the wing – something which took until early morning for Jake to realise.

The first day gave the players and staff the chance to take in the sights of Sydney with a visit to the Opera House.

Day two saw the players train at the Panthers with a morning session under the guidance of Head Coach Derek Traynor alongside Tommy Martyn, Derek Hardman, Neil Kilshaw and Ian Talbot.

This gave the real workers the chance to visit the shops and stock up with all the bits and bobs needed to feed 27 players and 10 staff.

The day time and great weather gave the players and some staff… note not Leo (Steve Leonard), Chizzy (Eric Chisnall) or my good self, the opportunity to give Body Boarding and Surfing a go.

I think most enjoyed the dip in the sea at Manly despite most spending the vast majority of time like they were in a washing machine rather than on a board of some type.

Pictures tell a thousand words… enjoy!
