THE players woke up with disappointment in their heads and their hearts, writes Mike Rush.
It is often said in sport that you can learn more from a defeat than you can from victory and yesterday will be one of those occasions.
The St George team had an average competition rate of 75% for the three games.
We had a rate of 45% which tells a tale of the game and demonstrates why we struggled to get over the whitewash more often and gives you some idea of the amount we defended during the games.
Overall, it was the younger players who came away with the majority of credit having to play against players both older and more experienced and in most cases physically bigger in every position.
Today was a recovery day and the lads got the chance to undertake this in the Olympic pool. All the players went through a 30 minute session in the main pool before some free time in the recreation pool.
The ANZ stadium still has many Olympic memories outside the stadium and the staff and players took time out looking at the records and seeing the distance athletes jumped or times they ran to win medals back in 2000.
No real tales from the day as the lads were very quiet and it is now our job to pick them up and get them ready for Game Two on Wednesday night.
Tomorrow will see the lads have a kick and catch session with the Sydney Swans; the first time we have been able to make this happen. It is a new experience and day we are all looking forward to.
Many thanks to all for following the lads on this experience of a lifetime.
