Flash Wanting Big Season

MARK Flanagan is hoping to put a nightmare year behind him and come back as strong as ever.

The back rower suffered a knee injury at Hull KR in early April which ultimately ruled him out for the season.

But now he’s injury free, in full training and has agreed a two-year contract.

“I have loved my two years at Saints, it has been great,” he said. “I actually agreed on the deal before my injury but the club stayed true to their word and honoured the contract.

“I was worried that it might not happen, but Eamonn, Mike Rush and Browny stuck by me and I want to repay their faith. I want to repay the club with some silverware.

“I’ve spent six to seven months with the physios and they have become my best friends. They have been great and I have to thank them. I’m now working hard to get baseline fitness for the new season. It’s great I’m now back with the lads again. I’m glad pre-season has come around.”

Flash has played 36 times for Saints in his two years to date and believes the 2014 squad is looking very strong.

“We have brought quality players in and they offer a lot to the team,” he continued. “There’s competition for places and that will bring the best out of us all.

“We will have Jonny Lomax playing a full season at full back, Luke Walsh at 7 and Roby at 9. That is a strong spine and with good forwards and a young back line we will be a force to be reckoned with.

“Last season was tough for us as we had a lot of enforced changes. We are more stable this year and if we have more luck with injuries then we should go well. We weathered a lot of adversity and came good at the end. We proved we were a match for anyone and now we need to kick on and improve.”
