IS there a better number 9 in Super League?
When James Roby committed the rest of his playing career to Saints he continued the legacy he began in 2004.
The Blackbrook amateur made his debut against Widnes that season and has since gone on to made 280 appearances, adding 73 tries and a goal.
32 rep hons followed, not to mention a whole heap of awards including the Man of Steel title in 2007.
Not bad for one of the most humble characters in the British game to date – and one of the most important.
It’s no coincidence that when England and Saints play well, Robes is at the hub.
2014 will be massive for Roby and Saints as they build a side more than equipped with bringing silverware back to the club.
And the spine of Lomax, Walsh and James will be key to that success.
“I was very happy to sign my deal,” he said. “I’m happy here, my family are settled and I suppose deep down I knew I was never going to leave.
“It should be a great year going forward and there’s a buzz around the town.
“We have fantastic players coming in, the young players are maturing, and everything seems to be going in the right direction.”
