Academy Pushed Hard

SAINTS Academy are deep into their preparations for the new season and according to most it is the hardest ever.

Under the guidance of first team Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Daniels, they have been hard at it since mid-November following a short break from the Australia Tour.

As usual the staff have mixed in some alternative sessions to the players’ training schedules with visits to Sherdley Park and the annual sand dunes session just before Christmas.

And, as you can see from our video, the weather was certainly the worst for the long time with the full range of wind, sun, hail and torrential rain throughout the epic session.

Alongside the strength and conditioning work, the coaching team of Derek Traynor, Eric Chisnall, Paul Molyneux and Ste Leonard have been assisted by first team coaches Jamahl Lolesi and Kieron Cunningham in developing the young players’ skills and tactical awareness.

Derek Traynor, Academy Head Coach, said: “Pre-season has gone very well so far and the players have soaked up the valuable tips and advice from our colleagues in the first team.

“In fact several of them are well placed to have a big season to push for future full time positions.

“The next few weeks are vital in finalising our preparations for a successful season. We have a tough start with Warrington away but it will be exciting.”
