KYLE Amor says this is the season he needs to step up and prove he can play in a top side.
At 6ft 2 and 16st 3, the former Wakefield Wildcat joins a sizeable pack for 2014 – and one that is expected to lay a big platform.
“This club speaks massively for itself and the finals it has been in,” he said. “The squad that has been brought in this year can definitely be up there and challenging for silverware. That is something that really excited me and something I wanted to be part of.
“Is this a defining moment in my career? It probably is. I like to put pressure on myself and I know this is the time I need to step up and prove I can play in a big side and big games.”
Amor arrives at Saints via Whitehaven, Leeds and Wakefield and his excited about what lies ahead.
“I was with Whitehaven four or five months from amateur and to go from there to Leeds was, looking back now, too big of a rise. I didn’t quite grasp what it took to be in a top side and each day at training. When I played I didn’t do myself justice.
“Going to Wakefield allowed me to build up game time and thankfully Nathan Brown saw something in me I could add to this team. I’m looking forward to playing in these big games and challenging for silverware.
“My job is to help the team go forward and then the classy players can play off the back of that. The forwards have to stick to their part of the deal and then the rest can follow suit.
“There is a lot of competition in the forwards but Browny doesn’t care who you are. If you aren’t doing your job properly then you’ll be out.”
Saints will kick off their Super League campaign with a trip to Warrington on Thursday February 13 before hosting Hull FC eight days later in a blockbusting Langtree Park opener.
Before then Nathan Brown’s men take on Batley (January 24) and Wigan (January 31) in pre-season friendlies.
