Brown: Intense Contest

NATHAN Brown was pleased with the intensity of Saints match with Wigan Warriors on Friday but knows his side has a lot more to do.

Adam Swift scored two tries in a 28-16 defeat that was right on the wire until the final moments.

“The intensity was really good,” Brown said. “Wigan are certainly going to be a top four side again and let’s be honest you can’t fluke the double. Their attack looked more fluid and their wrestle was more effective – they were better in that area.

“But the first 60 minutes in particular was a good intense game. It’s good for us as we’ve played a good side and it has given us some areas to work on. It certainly wasn’t a friendly.

“There were a lot of penalties in the game and we put ourselves under a lot of pressure and that showed at the back end of the game.

“Luke Walsh kicked the ball beautifully but then we gave away some penalties and took away the flow. We are really happy with our squad and are confident of a good year but we have some things to work on.”

Brown indicated after the match that Luke Walsh is likely to have a precautionary x-ray after receiving a blow to the head in what looked to be an off the ball incident.
