JOSH Jones says Saints may have had a good start to the First Utility Super League season but they need to keep on working.
The 20-year-old has been part of the Club’s successful start to the campaign with Catalan next in the crosshairs this Friday.
“You couldn’t have asked for a better start,” he said. “The fans are happy, the coaches are and the players are too,” he said. “But there’s a long tough road ahead if we want to make those finals.
“Having Luke Walsh has really helped; he is a class act, tells us what we need to do and can go on his own too. He brings structure and that has enabled Lance Hohaia and James Roby to do what they do best – then the forwards go off the back of that.
“Confidence at the club has never been an issue and now we have brought players in they enhance competition for places and that is good.”
Josh will be in the line-up this Friday as Saints take on a winless Catalan.
“We can’t rest on our laurels,” he added. “Catalan are a physical team and have players with Grand Final experience too. We can’t look at their stats and what they have done, we need to isolate some of their players and do what we need to do.
“They like playing at Langtree but this is a new season now and we have to make it a fortress.”
He continued: “I’m really enjoying playing. It doesn’t matter if I am coming off the bench or starting. Hopefully Nathan and the coaches are happy with how I am performing. I’m at a great club and happy with where I am.
“I’m still only 20-years-old and have a lot of development in me. Hopefully in the next few years I can cement a role for myself whether that be at loose forward, centre or second row.
“I like being in the middle, going in and giving it my best. I’d take defending over attacking; I hold that facet of the game dear to me.”
