AS debuts go running head first into a pack the size of Leeds Rhinos could be a daunting ask.
But Andre Savelio showed little sign of nerves as he made his Langtree Park bow in last Friday’s dramatic Super League clash.
Coming on in the first half, he produced a strong run to get Saints into great field position and won a penalty from which Anthony Walker scored.
“It was good, fast and I was just happy to get out there with the boys,” he said. “They made it a lot easier and we never doubted each other from the start.
“We’d been written off but knew we had strength in depth. From 1 to 17 we believed all week regardless whatever was said that we could get out there and do the job. It came true for us.
“It helped as I got my hand son the ball early and it kicked on from there. From my first carry I knew what I was capable of and the boys backed me as well.”
Andre joined Saints from Latchford Albion and has been with the club since he was 14. He played for England’s Under 16s and 18s – the latter at the age of 16.
