SAINTS will face Catalan next Thursday (Thursday October 2) in their Playoff Semi Final at Langtree Park.
Chairman Eamonn McManus named the French side as their ‘ClubCall’ choice following the Dragons’ 18-16 win over in Huddersfield on Friday night.
The other Semi Final will see Wigan host Warrington Wolves.
On making ‘ClubCall’ live on Sky Sports, McManus said: “There is a lot to take into consideration. There’s current form, league position, injuries and it was a difficult decision. There is a lot of thought and analysis that goes into it.
“After speaking to the coaching staff and senior players we have chosen Warrington… to play Wigan. They enjoy each other’s company and we wouldn’t want to deny them that. We will play Catalan and I’m sure they will both be great semi finals.”
Catalan finished seventh in Super League this season – with Warrington fifth – but the Dragons have had a superb run in the playoffs.
They’ve beaten Leeds and Huddersfield on the road to lie just 80 minutes from Old Trafford.
McManus continued: “Catalan are a very strong side. They have beaten Leeds and Huddersfield, are in a rich vein of from, are strong all over the park and it will need the very best St Helens performance to beat them.”
Saints have played Catalan twice this year with the ‘series’ split one apiece.
