Makinson: Special Moment

TOMMY Makinson says winning a title is what dreams are made of.

The 23-year-old winger scored vital try as Saints beat Wigan 14-6 in the Grand Final.

“I’m ecstatic,” he said after the game, “to get a ring and to do it for the fans is brilliant. I’ve been lucky enough to sneak in for two tries in Finals and they have both been important.

“The first one we lost to Leeds but to score the second one and finally get my own back here is a very special moment.

“We showed character, guts and determination to get over the line. We knew what we had left in the tank and in the end we wore them down.

“You earn the rub of the green and your luck and we got there in the end.”

He continued: “There have been a lot of doubters this season. From the moment we lost Luke Walsh, Jon Wilkin and Jonny Lomax everyone wrote us off. We stuck it to them in the end and it was a special moment.

“To get the win for Paul Wellens and James Roby, those guys that have lost finals… it is a special moment.

“Nathan Brown too. He has gone a lot for me and the boys, we have learnt a lot from him too. He will go back home with a Super League trophy and League Leaders’ Shield too.”
